Guess who just arrived at the feed store?
Our first two chicks of the season! These Americaunas will be joined by more little friends on Wednesday.
They are settled in very nicely to the brooder box my husband built this weekend out of salvaged pallets and extra wood scraps we had around our place. I’m looking forward to two more green eggs a day in our basket this fall!

The brooder looks great. I want to get some more ameraucanans too, the raccoon ate all mine and they laid the nicest blue eggs too.

That is a really nice brooder box! Congrats, I've got chick fever myself, but mine aren't due until May……..

Hey there – found you through a link on Jenna's Coldantler Farm blog! To my surprise (and delight) I noticed you live in Oregon, as do I. As I read through your blog I realized we both live in the Wilamette Valley as well! It's a very small world indeed.
Love your blog, very inspirational. I will definitely keep reading π

Goodwife, I just couldn't wait! I'm getting 10 now and 20 in April! I did warn everyone I was a crazy chicken lady… π

Thanks April! I noticed a while back that Jenna had some other Oregon readers, and I am so happy to know there are more homesteading enthusiasts in my neck of the woods! The Willamette Valley is a pretty good place to be.

It is, most definitely! I noticed last night after commenting on your post that we live VERY close to one another! I live just east of Eugene off of highway 126 pretty close to Mckenzie River Farm. I head out towards Veneta quite a bit in the summers for kayaking, country fair, etc. Again, a very small world π

We go out to McKenzie River Farm every year for blueberries! What a wonderful place to live by! One of my favorite things about where I'm at is walking to Country Faire and being so close to the ocean. It is such a small world π
