The summer my children were 6, we had just sold our housebus, and decided it was time for a family vacation. If we were to go anywhere, where would it be? The answer was simply Idaho hot springs. Having been hot spring enthusiasts for quite some time, the geothermal wonderland in the mountains of Idaho was an easily chosen destination. In September, we took the kids out of Kindergarten for a whole week (I know, such bad parents!) and headed out in our truck with Evie Litton’s Hiking Hot Springs in the Pacific Northwest and an Idaho Gazetteer as our guide. We made a stop at our favorite Oregon hot spring along the way, Three Forks Warm Spring in the Owyhee River canyon of southeastern Oregon, where we took a rugged jeep road over a ridge top, and crossed the river in our truck to a big gravel bar to camp. We had the whole canyon to ourselves along with the hot spring creek and waterfalls.

Awesome again! It would be fun to take a day trip to a nearby hotsprings to get the winter chill out.
