Moving has been keeping me busy…too busy to write a blog post about the new place. But, I thought I’d give a sneak peek at the new homestead which will be the future subject of many, many writings to come.
Every day it seems, some new flower opens up. Currently there are several colors of rhododendrons, wild irises, orchids, lilacs, roses and the list goes on and on…
I feel like I hit the outbuilding jackpot, with a barn, shop, two sheds down below and even a secret hidden one on the hillside that my son found in the brush.
Paul Bunyan and the ladies are enjoying free ranging their days away.
Ms. Frizzle is happily raising three Araucana chicks and teaching them to scratch and forage.
The Quail are all situated in their new spot looking out at one of the garden beds. I’m getting so many eggs I had to hardboil a pan full of them for lunches!
We’ve spent some evenings up at our spring (yes, we have a spring) about a half mile up the hill, digging out the pools, clearing the screens on the piping and getting the tanks filling to feed the faucets in our garden. There’s a bit more work to go on the main line, and we should be set for summer watering.
One of my new favorite Sunday traditions is working out in the garden while Corey mows the lawn. With a little cardboard sheet mulching that job should get smaller eventually, but I think he enjoys it all the same.
At the end of these busy days, I have been taking a moment to enjoy soaking in the views of trees, mountains and flowering plants and feeling thankful for everything around me and all my homesteading dreams coming true!
