We like to have a lot of fun around here on Halloween, and there are few things so fun as turning a pile of pumpkins into fanciful luminaries. It seems like every year we come up with more and more creative jack-o-lantern ideas, and inspiration from other people’s pumpkins. As I am often thinking about wild mushrooms this time of year, there usually ends up being at least one fungus-themed lantern in the mix. This enormous Big Dorris pumpkin from our garden was just right for a chanterelle-o-lantern..
On a dark and spooky Autumn night, this jack-o-lantern on a stick appears like a ghostly apparition, floating in mid-air. He was my favorite this year.
Small wood carving chisels were an inspiration from a friend a couple
years back, and I am enjoying watching my kids’ skills unfold after all
their woodworking instruction at the Waldorf School.

Let me introduce you to my cute little friends.
Don’t mess with this ninja and ghost. They’re big and bad, and they mean business!
And no Halloween would be complete without a little pumpkin house for the roving fairies.
Happy Halloween!
