I needlefelted this wool wall hanging portraying an ancient old growth stand of
Sitka Spruce trees growing along the Hoh River on the Western Olympic
Peninsula of Washington State. The Olympic Mountain peaks tower over the
ridgeline above the Hoh River Valley, where the forest grows and
shelters a whole world of life. A fallen nurse log gives nourishment to
young seedlings upon a mossy blanket, and a salmon gives nourishment to a
black bear on the riverbank. All the while, the river rolls by on it’s
way out to the Pacific Ocean.

This wall hanging was inspired by a backpacking trip I took my kids on a couple of summers ago, where I had my own encounter with a real live bear.
It was quite the adventure, which you can read about here:

You know, one of the things I like about the McKenzie River valley and the woods up here is that it reminds me of home! This could be a McKenzie River wall hanging as well!
